Top 10 Horror Movies of All Time

It’s Halloween season again and you know what that means. Time to take out the box filled with horror movies collection and build a blanket fort to watch these exhilarating, mind-freaking movies that will make you want to turn on the lights the whole night.

Horror movies have always been a combination of fun and freaky – at least to those who enjoy watching them. Not everyone like it though. But if you want to be introduced in the world of ghosts and monsters and vampires, you might as well start with the best. Here are 10 of the all-time favorite horror flicks.

  1. The Ring (2002)

A vengeful spirit of a girl who died in a well; a death of a young woman and her three friends; and a videotape that, when watched, sets out a curse that leads to the death of anyone who watches it. Sadako visits you a week after you have watched the tape, and the main character sets out to finish the curse once and for all, but not with a trail of death first.

  1. Jaws (1975)

Not all horror movies are made of monsters and mythical creatures who we think do not exist (or do they?). Horror films can be in the very form of regular happenings in the world such as shark attacks. As much as sea creature specialists would want to tell us that sharks are harmless, will you be willing to take that risk? If you enjoy sea travel as much as anyone enjoys fun things, you will think twice after watching Jaws.

  1. The Blair Witch Project (1999)

The Blair Witch Project catapulted the film industry with this eccentric genre of “documentaries” made into movies. What made this film particularly horror-ific is that, apart from its realistic plot, it talks about witchcraft which is both a taboo but very real subject up to now. It’s the idea of getting lost in the woods and not knowing what awaits of these students that made the film thrilling and creepy.

  1. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

The Silence of the Lambs is a story of a top student from the FBI training academy that was tasked by her professor to interview a well-known psychiatrist and observe his works. The psychiatrist is also believed to be a psychopath and is serving life behind bars. Tried for cannibalism and various acts of murder, the student was made as bait to draw out the psychopath in him.

  1. Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

What can be creepier than a murderer who wears his victim’s skin as a mask, while he runs around and kill more and more people using a chainsaw? The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is, as the name would tell you, a thrilling, shrilling horror story about a group who were set in the trap of a madman who kills people as a hobby.

  1. Cabin in the Woods (2012)

Adventure with friends; a cool, cozy cabin; a long-awaited vacation – what can possibly go wrong? Unless, everything does. Cabin in the Woods is the perfect film for those who love going on an adventure with friends, but with a hair-rising twist that will make you want to take your adventure home or just paint the town red.

  1. The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is considered as one of the most profitable films ever made and continues to make profit 40 years after its release. The film is a tale of exorcisms that are based on true and actual events. The story is of a girl who started acting weird, when her mother sought medical help, they ended up nowhere near medical diagnosis. Only to find out that the girl has demons inside her.

  1. 28 Days Later (2002)

A chimp with “Rage” virus was released from captivity and spread the virus in the city. The protagonist wakes up from a coma and found the city deserted, except for zombie-like citizens who were infected by the virus. The protagonist embarks on a journey, along with a few other survivors, to their safety.

  1. Scream (1996)

In a quiet town, out of nowhere, someone in a mask suddenly starts running around and taunting innocent people before killing them to shreds. With no one having any idea who the psycho killer may be, nobody is safe, and anybody can be the killer.

  1. The Conjuring (2013)

The film with the disclaimer that is not for the weak or faint-hearted, this movie has made its way to the top of the list because of the horrifying, terrifying scenes about supernatural beings, history and fear through and through.

Get ready for a night (or day) of hair-raising films and not wanting to go to the bathroom because someone might be looking. Watching these horror flicks can really get the mind going and they’re all perfect for a scary Halloween. Trick or treat.
